“Before USM, I was an aspiring filmmaker who was profoundly stuck.”(

“Feelings of frustration, stagnation, and overwhelm were so strong that they were getting in the way of my life moving forward. What I discovered in the First Year was a litany of unresolved issues from my childhood that contributed to what I perceived as my lack of success. And as all of these issues came up, I had this amazingly supportive educational environment in which to work through them. I began applying the skills taught in the Master's Program in my life, and it started making a positive difference. When my son was 15 months old, he started to experience some pretty significant developmental delays. I spent time researching ways in which I could support my son. This led my wife and me to implement a home-based play therapy program focused on emotional connections and relationship building. The program was a great success. Because of my journey as a parent, I was inspired to make a film about my experience to help other parents. At the end of my Second Year, I had my completed film in hand. The film, 'Autistic-Like: Graham's Story,' is currently screening at film festivals around the country and at international special-needs conferences. When I travel and present the film, I hear from parents how much the film has helped them, which is deeply fulfilling for me. As far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't be where I am now without my USM education.” (

“I figure I would have lost about $200,000 in salary, so at the end of the game, I'm ahead financially for having gone to USM . . . and that's not even the best part.”(

“I work in the movie business as a visual effects supervisor. I was working with a director that I found so difficult that I had decided to quit the job. This was shortly after 9/11 -- the economy was in shambles and I knew there was no other job for me for the foreseeable future . . . yet I was so upset with this man that I could not continue. Rather than call the director and quit, I decided to do a Self-Counseling, which is taught in the Master's Program. It's a powerful tool where students learn to access what USM calls your 'Inner Counselor.' As I did the Self-Counseling, I realized the director was serving as a trigger to bring forward old issues I had with my father and with men in general -- and painful feelings came up. It became very clear that everything going on in terms of the director was old hurt, and it was all mine. I had released the hurt, so I didn't have to quit the job! I figure I would have lost about $200,000 in salary. That's nothing compared to the personal growth I experienced that has transformed my entire life. That's priceless. I consider attending USM one of the wisest decisions I have ever made.” (

“My USM education continues to be one of the single most important things that supports me both professionally and personally. It's the greatest single gift I have ever given to myself and those around me. It has made me a better husband, a better father, a better boss and colleague, and a better person. Scott's other films include 300, We Are Marshall, Superman Returns, and The Ant Bully.”
