Celebrating USM’s 2007
Ambassador of the Year

What is an Ambassador? The dictionary says, “Somebody or something regarded as an unofficial representative or a symbol of something.” USM Ambassadors are “unofficial representatives” of the University in that they demonstrate the tools and skills of Spiritual Psychology as they go about their daily lives while sharing with others about how and where they learned them.

As she prepared to introduce this year’s award recipient, Dr. Mary Hulnick, the University’s Chief Academic Officer, shared, “USM does not rely on traditional advertising to reach a target audience; rather, awareness of the University occurs largely through word-of-mouth. In fact, 70% of those who come to the University find out about USM as the result of a graduate or current student sharing about their experience.”

The University does indeed have a large number of graduate Ambassadors who love to share the value of their USM educational experience. And, in reality, most often it is the graduate’s way of being that communicates who they are to those around them. Ambassadors are delighted to share of themselves and about the University in ways that inspire and, in some cases, compel others to contact USM to find out more.

Suzi, Class of 1996, has referred a high number of students to the University since she graduated. And she is an example of the kind of transformation and contribution that occurs when a student participates fully in her education.

When Suzi received the award, she remarked that she was very surprised to be recognized for something that comes so naturally to her. “I had a dream that I’d put on the shelf before I attended USM. With the encouragement, support, and skills I learned at USM, I re-ignited the fire of this dream in my heart. I reclaimed my love of music and playing the piano. When I share with people about this, I ask them, ‘Do you have a dream? If so, then you need to go to USM to find out how to manifest that dream!’”

Suzi’s music is magical and filled with the Spirit of love. In fact, the uplifting, heart-centered music that is played on the USM phone lines when a person is put on hold is from the collection of music that Suzi recorded as her USM Second Year Project. Suzi’s exampleship underscores the value of a USM education.
