The Story of You at Work

What was my dream job when I was younger? I had forgotten about many of my dreams until I started doing Ideal Scenes in my First Year. Throughout my work career, I had been in positions that included Human Resources, Office Management, and Facilities Management. It wasn’t quite what I set out to do although there were aspects of each position that I really enjoyed. So what was that dream that I had? There were two jobs that I had imagined myself doing—one was as an editor, since I love to write, and the other was working in academia. Both of these appealed to me, yet I never pursued either of them. Life happened and took me along with it.
Then one day, an Available Position flyer magically appeared on my chair during class, and I thought, “Perfect! What would be a 3-foot toss? I know . . . write a cover letter and submit my résumé!” Spirit met me at the point of action! I’ve been at USM for over nine years now and am currently the Director of Educational Materials & Curriculum Support. I have the privilege of editing documents in an academic (and spiritual!) environment. What do you know . . . my dream job has manifested. And better than I had imagined!
What was work like prior to USM? It was OK, yet something was missing for me. After a couple of years at a company, I’d get the urge to look for another job, hoping that I’d find something that would feel more fulfilling to me. Little did I realize that the fulfillment came from within. Now I enjoy all aspects of my job and do so with great joy and a loving family of co-workers. For me, participating in this loving and supportive environment and being encouraged to step forward in my mastery every day is work the way I always wished it would be!
