Dr. Philip Barr has practiced medicine in a variety of settings over his 25 years in the field. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, he earned his M.D. at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where he received Honors in Family Medicine and researched the benefits of meditation. He went on to earn his specialty boards in Internal Medicine following post-graduate studies at the University of Massachusetts hospitals.
Dr. Barr’s continued interest in consciousness work led him to a medical research fellowship at Harvard University’s Mind/Body Medicine Division. After many years of seeking integrative medicine in clinical settings, Philip broadened his educational base to include a Master’s degree in Theology and completed his M.A. in Spiritual Psychology with an Emphasis in Consciousness, Health, and Healing at USM.
With diverse experience spanning the private sector and public health/Native American settings, Dr. Barr has also served as Medical Director of both physical rehabilitation and psychiatric hospitals. Having tapered his practice in acute hospital medicine, Philip is integrating the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual levels in his approach to healing the whole person. Philip co-founded the Naturally Evolving Wellness Medical Center in Santa Monica, California, a bridge between traditional medicine and the whole person approach. His practice is now full time at the California Wellbeing Institute and the California Health and Longevity Institute. He is privileged to serve on the faculty of the University of Santa Monica in the Counseling Psychology Program.
Philip and his wife, Diane Botticelli, live in Newbury Park, CA. With three wonderful sons, they love getting out to the beaches and trails along the coast.
