Distinguishing Features of USM’s M.A. Program in Counseling Psychology (CP) with an Emphasis in Spiritual Psychology include:
- Providing a solid foundation in the academic coursework necessary to become a licensed professional therapist in addition to fostering development of the
fundamental competency of a loving and compassionate consciousness. - Building a foundation of competence and confidence in the art of counseling through consistent experience and practice, beginning the first weekend of class and continuing throughout the Program.
- Demonstrating the healing consciousness in a therapeutic setting.
- Training in the application of marriage and family relationship counseling principles and methods within a spiritual framework.
- Developing those personal qualities that are intimately related to effectiveness in counseling including acceptance, compassion, unconditional loving, genuineness, integrity, intuition, patience, and personal presence.
- Identifying, working with, and resolving your own limiting psychological patterns.
- Teaching the development and refinement of inner attunement skills including intuition and direct knowing.
- Encouraging students to cultivate and use a regular spiritual practice of their choosing, including options such as spiritual exercises, devotional practices, meditation, yoga, aikido, tai chi, etc.
